CYNICI is Latin for “dog-like”, and is the root word from where “cynical” comes from. While being described as “cynical” today differs much from how it was used in Ancient Greece, as a trauma survivor, it still holds a lot of symbolism. My trauma often makes me suspicious of those around me, even if they seem to have good intentions, and it often makes me feel like a poorly socialized guard dog, barking at anything vaguely threatening. While modern day cynicism is not a thing to aspire to be, as it robs you of joy and allows the horrors of the world to go unchecked, I also still wanted to confront these feelings I still struggle with.
